FAQ's
1. Membership
Q) I signed up for the Sterling Farms Men's Club 5 days ago but I am still not activated. What should I do?
A) Please wait at least 10 days from when you signed up for the Men's Club. After 10 days please contact the handicap chairman.
Q) I am thinking about joining your club but I don't have anyone to golf with. What should I do?
A) Go to the "Find a Partner" section of our website forum. This is where you will find other members looking to fill their tee-times (either once or for a permanent foursome) as well as other members looking to join a foursome.
Q) I just started playing golf. Should I wait until next year to join the Men's Club?
A) Now is the time to join the Men's Club. While you might not place in every event you play, statistically new players who are learning and improving in the game of golf are more likely to perform better then their handicap.
Q) I signed up for a handicap but have not received anything?
- Please ensure you signed up for the Sterling Farms Men's Club; not the handicap only program.
- Check to see if you are activated. Once activated you will be able to search for yourself on GHIN's handicap lookup page.
- If you signed up for the Men's Club, please wait 10 days from when you signed up for the club.
- After 10 days please contact the handicap chairman if you are still not activated.
Q) Where can I see our Membership list with Handicap Index and Course Handicap?
A) You can see our members as well as their Handicap Index and Course Handicap by clicking on the "Latest Index Update" under the "Handicap" drop down from the menu bar above. You can also go to the Handicap "Revision Schedule" and click to see our member's indexes from each of the revisions throughout the year.
2. Handicap & GHIN
Q) Why does my Handicap Index display "NH"?
A) GHIN has a known software bug that incorrectly displays about 1/3 of our member's Handicap Indexes as NH (No Handicap) at the very beginning of the season or when new members are activated. The NH will go away at the next Handicap Revision as long as you have posted a new score prior to the transmission date.
Q) How many rounds of golf do I need before getting a Handicap?
A) Five 18 hole rounds are required to establish a USGA Handicap. After 5 rounds your handicap will be based off your best round. Once you have 20 rounds posted your handicap will be based off your 10 best rounds.
Q) When should I start to receive my GolfWorld subscription?
A) GolfWorld subscriptions start around August. If you already have a GolfWorld subscription, an additional year will be added onto the end of your current subscription
Q) Where can I find my GHIN #?
A) Please read the Handicap Overview page, Section #1 for more information.
Q) I posted a score but it does not show up on my latest Handicap Index?
A) Check to make sure you posted the score prior to the transmission / cut off. If you feel your score was deleted, please re-post your score.
Q) I double posted a score. What should I do.
Please contact the Handicap Chairman to correct your scoring record.
Q) What is a 'Sandbagger'?
A golfer who misrepresents their current ability and Handicap (intentional or unintentional). When intentional, it is traditionally done in order to deceive a competitor. The Sterling Farms Men's Club takes sandbagging seriously. We have the ability to modify handicap's when needed or even suspend members from competitive play. If you think you know of a sandbagger, please tell us about it by clicking here.
3. Events
Q) I want to sign up for an event. What do I do?
- If you are signing up on the board for a weekend event, click here to read more.
- If you are signing up for the Opening, Closing, Member/Member, Member/Guest, Interclub or Shoreline you can sign up in the pro-shop or on this website. Updated links will be on the homepage once the sign up period begins.
- If you are signing up for the President's Cup, Vice President's Cup or Club Championship you can sign up on the board outside the pro-shop or on the homepage once the sign up period begins.
Q) What is the Grillo versus Grillo Tournament?
A) While we fully support our members competing in this event, this is not a Sterling Farms Men's Club event. This tournament was started by Paul Grillo (Executive Director of the Sterling Farms Golf Course) and his brother Vincent Grillo Jr. (Executive Director of the Oak Hills Park Golf Course, Norwalk, CT) in 2008.
Paul Grillo hand picks the team that represents Sterling Farms. Most of the Sterling Farms team members come from the Sterling Farms Men's Club. This is due to our members familiarity with both courses as well as their significant tournament experience (earned through our clubs opportunities).
Q) I have questions about the Stamford Amateur Golf Tournament (AKA Stamford City Tournament). Who do I ask?
While we fully support our members competing in this event, this is not a Sterling Farms Men's Club event. Please contact the Sterling Farms Pro-Shop for more information.
4. Website
Q) I am having trouble opening up some pages/documents like the Meeting Minutes and the Scorecard. Why is this?
A) A portion of our website opens documents in an Adobe PDF format. In order to view these documents you will need a free Adobe Reader. You can download the free reader here.
Q) What web browser should I use when viewing this website?
A) This website was optimized for Microsoft's Internet Explorer but will work correctly in most browsers including Mozilla's Firefox and Apple's Safari.
For handheld users (BlackBerry, IPhone, LG etc.) most of the information will be displayed correctly. The menu bar will display all of the links but unfortunately will take up a good portion of the page. Once you scroll past the menu bar links, the normal page information should display correctly.
Also for handheld users, tables are displayed differently. Because of this all tournament and event results for 2008 will not be portrayed correctly. This issue has been corrected for the 2009 results.
